Monochromatic Painting

Monochromatic means using only one color in different tints, shades and tones.

Ages 4 & up

Supplies Needed:

Mono1

Begin by drawing in pencil.

For younger kids, you may want to skip this step. It they can't color inside the lines, they probably can't paint inside either.

Explain tints, shades and tones.

Tints: a color mixed with white.

Shades: a color mixed with black.

Tones: a color mixed with gray (or black and white).

I find it easist to paint the background first.

Suggest this to your kids.

They will typically go straight for the details. Then it is super hard to do the background around the details.

Remind them to mix up different colors for each item.

Remember to use tints, shades and tones. This will make the painting more interesting.

This is a great project to pracitce color mixing!

After you have painted the large areas in the painting, you can use a small brush and add the details.
